Plain text basics

Plain text stores characters without visual formatting. Use UTF-8 when exchanging files so readers can display a wide range of languages.

Keep a descriptive file name and include a short heading. A CSV table separates columns with commas; fields containing commas or quotes need appropriate quoting.
